About Me
Keiren Cheung is a RIBA Part 2 architecture graduate with Master of Architecture by Conversion (MArch by Conv), Diploma in Architecture (DipArch) and Bachelor of Architecture with Honours (BArch Hons) from the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow School of Art.
My main interests in Architecture is interdisciplinary design, working and developing on adaptive reuse and conservation projects through sustainable architecture. In addition, I also have a particular interest in spatial development through Sound and Acoustics, which influences my architectural design work. Especially, during my DipArch I undertook a dissertation topic titled “The abstract form of architectural acoustics through the evolution of theatres and concert halls”. Furthermore, as an extension for my MArch (by Conv) thesis explored “Noise and Nuisance: A Study of Acoustics in the Bourdon Building Studio”. For examples of my work, please find attached portfolio for your review or visit my website and the GSA Graduate Showcase 2024.
With regards to practical experience I have previously worked in an architectural office, during my year-out in 2021. I predominately prepared planning drawings for small residential and domestic projects as well as liaising with external consultants. Furthermore, I have also shadowed an architect on a freelance basis in producing construction drawings for building warrant stage. In terms of software capabilities I am proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Packages and Sketch Up which I have used extensively throughout my academic studies and in practice.
Throughout university, I have successfully balanced part-time work alongside my demanding architecture coursework. Additionally, I have prior experience working in various part-time retail roles to support my academic studies, ranging from fast-paced environments to customer service-focused positions. These experiences have taught me to be time-conscious, plan ahead of deadlines efficiently, and work effectively under pressure.
Beyond academia, I am also an avid musician playing the Violin and Viola which I have undertaken ABRSM Grade 8 with distinction/merit on both instruments respectively. Alongside my academic studies I have previously been involved with the University of Strathclyde Symphony Orchestra, attending weekly rehearsals as well as performing in annual seasonal concerts. Meanwhile also taking on part time jobs to support my academic studies. All of which has taught me to be time conscious and planning ahead of deadlines efficiently and effectively.
Recently, I was working as a Seasonal Visitor Services Advisor for VisitScotland (Industry Destination Development Directorate). In this role I provide information to visitors, booking tour packages and liaising with external affiliated companies. More recently, I also assisted with the UCI Cycling World Championships which was held in Glasgow over the summer of August 2023.
